JUSTICE MINISTER OF AZERBAIJAN MEETS DIRECTOR GENERAL OF POLITICAL AFFAIRS OF CoE
Director General of Political Affairs of the Council of Europe Mr Jean-Louis Laurens now visiting the country met with the Justice Minister of Azerbaijan, chairman of the Judicial-Legal Council Fikret Mamamdov, 3 February.
 In detail informing on radical democratic alterations carried out in Azerbaijan, including large-scale work on modernization of judicial system and development of judicial authorities, the Minister has noted, that these reforms are being conducted with the assistance of the Council of Europe in conditions of intensive and useful cooperation. Having emphasized efficiency of joint activity on perfection of judiciary practice, election and training of candidates to the judge through advanced and transparent methods, creation of the Justice Academy, Minister Mammadov on concrete facts pointed at the development of penitentiary system, local self-government and notable move ahead in other spheres.
 Jean-Louis Laurens has with satisfaction noted, that attaches special significance to performance of the obligations taken before the Council of Europe by Azerbaijan. He has highly estimated the National Plan of Activity approved by President Ilham Aliyev on protection of human rights. Having noted, that the Council of Europe gives great value to cooperation with Azerbaijan, the visitor has with satisfaction emphasized, that the Ministry of Justice is the important and business partner in this sphere. He has noted multilateral and effective activity of the Ministry in creation of new institutions, including the Academy of Justice. Having emphasized value of the judicial-legal reforms, necessary attention and rendering assistance by the state to activity of the municipalities, he stated that the structure he represents supports democratic processes continuing in the country.
At the meeting passed in warm atmosphere and conditions of useful exchange of views, also discussed were prospects of expansion of mutual cooperation.
