AZERBAIJANI DELEGATION ATTENDED THE GLOBAL FORUM V ON FIGHTING CORRUPTION AND SAFEGUARDING INTEGRITY IN JOHANNESBURG
South Africa hosted the Global Forum V on Fighting Corruption and Safeguarding Integrity, on 2-5 April 2007 in Johannesburg, South Africa, under the theme `Fulfilling our commitments: effective action against corruption`. Global Forum V was organized by the Government of the Republic of South Africa in cooperation with the African Organizing Committee and the International Organizing Committee.
Members of the Commission on struggle against Corruption under the Council on Management of Public Service of Azerbaijan Zakir Garalov, Head of Public Prosecutor`s Office, Fikret Mammadov, Minister of Justice, Fuad Alasgarov, head of department for law-enforcement bodies in President`s Office, Inam Karimov, Secretary of the Commission on struggle against Corruption, Ruslan Hajiyev, head of international relations department of Public Prosecutor`s Office and others participated in the forum.
The first Global Forum on Fighting Corruption and Safeguarding Integrity was launched by the United States Government and held in Washington D.C. in 1999. Global Forum II `Fighting Corruption by means of Integrity, Transparency and Responsibility` was held in 2001, at The Hague, Netherlands. Global Forum III, `Growing Challenges, Shared Responsibilities` was hosted by South Korea in 2003 and Global Forum IV `From Words to Deeds` in Brazil in 2005. South Africa is the first African country to host the Forum.
The overall objective of the Global Forum on Fighting Corruption and Safeguarding Integrity is to discuss practical and effective measures for preventing and fighting corruption.
Azerbaijani representatives actively took part in the work of the forum and gave detailed information about the measures carried out in Azerbaijan connected with the fight against corruption.
